Aluminum Sand Casting

Lightweight. Consistent. Repeatable

Aluminum sand castings manufactured for repeat industrial production programs.

Industrial Aluminum Castings

Riverside produces industrial aluminum castings using sand casting processes structured for repeat production programs.

We work with customers across industrial, utility, and infrastructure equipment markets.

Aluminum Alloy 319

Alloy 319 offers balanced mechanical performance and casting characteristics suitable for equipment components and housings.

Aluminum Alloy 356

Alloy 356 is commonly selected where higher strength and improved corrosion resistance are required for structural and load-bearing components.

Other aluminum grades may be available depending on application requirements. If your project specifies a different alloy, please request a quotation.

Why Sand Casting for Your Aluminum Program?

Aluminum sand casting is often selected for:

  • Complex geometries

  • Available for low, medium or high volume production requirements.

  • Cost-conscious tooling strategies

  • Design flexibility during program development

For many industrial components, sand casting provides a practical balance between tooling investment and production stability.

Production Alignment

Aluminum programs are structured around:

  • Consistent mold control
  • Dimensional repeatability
  • Stable alloy handling
  • Coordinated machining when required

Riverside supports repeat manufacturing programs where consistency from run to run is critical.

Applications

Aluminum sand castings produced at Riverside are commonly used in:

  • Industrial equipment
  • Utility components
  • Infrastructure systems
  • Machinery assemblies
  • OEM replacement parts

The focus remains on production components rather than decorative or consumer applications.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions About Aluminum Sand Castings

Low density, light weight, good corrosion resistance, relatively low melting point.

356 (heat treatable & good castability) or 319.

Controlled heating and cooling alters the alloy’s microstructure, strengthening it to improve wear resistance and machinability.

~1256–1400ºF depending on alloy & gating; excessive overheating should be avoided.

Internal cavities, undercuts or features that cannot be drawn from a mold half require cores.

1–3º draft on pattern is typically required for ease of pattern removal from sand. Fillets reduce stress concentrations and improve metal flow in the mold.
